Qualifications

                   

CHARLES "CHUCK" PINEDA:

* Is a Harvard trained (Class of '73) Criminal Justice Administrator who in 1986 came in second in the Democratic
   Primary for Governor (L.A. Times Election Results).

* Was runner up for Lt. Governor of California in 1982 and garnered 248,395 Democratic Votes!

* Was the California Youth Authority's first Director of Gang Violence.

* Is well known for his work in significantly reducing gang violence in East Los Angeles and founded the Gang 
   Violence Reduction Project.

* Was appointed Hearing Officer to the United States Parole Commission.

* Served as Deputy Commissioner on the Board of Prison Terms (83-87) of the state of California and was formerly
   a Case Hearing Officer for the Youthful Offender Parole Board (formerly CYA Board).

* Is a Post-Korean Conflict Veteran, United States Army (RA).

* Was twice elected the National President of the MACA in Southern California.

* Is a graduate of the prestigious Center for the Advancement of Criminal Justice of Harvard Law School, and holds
   diplomas from James A. Garfield High School in East Los Angeles, East Los Angeles College, and Azusa Pacific
   University.

* Was born in Orange County (Santa Ana).

* Received the Great American Family Award from First Lady Nancy Reagan.

* The Hispanic  caucus of the Democratic Party overwhelmingly voted to work and support Pineda for Governor
    (April 12, 1990 delegates).

* Received the "Distinguish Service Award" from the California Youth Authority.

* Received "Certificate of Recognition" from the Democratic National Committee.

* Received praised in a 1999 letter from President Bill Clinton for his loyal support of the Democratic National
   Committee, and playing an important role in sustaining President Kennedy's legacy and work.
